The basic commando training of the Dutch special forces is one of the most severe in the world.

The Dutch commando’s can be compared with the Special Air Service of the British army and the Seals of the American army. Before they get their specialist training, like for instance jumping out of an airplane at 10 kilometres altitude and flying with a parachute for 50 kilometres or more, they undergo a severe physical training.
If they succeed this basic commando training they earn themselves the Green Beret. The speed march, alternately running and marching with heavy gear and weapons, in the hills of Marche-les-Dames near Namen in Belgium is considered to be the physically toughest element.
